Feeding our Hungry Souls

A defining quality of rebelutionaries must be that we are students of the Word. There are enough “Minute-A-Month” teen bibles crammed with more cartoons, beauty tips, and party-mix recipes than Scripture, to convince us that serious bible reading and study is not expected of us. One of the greatest ways we can rebel against low expectations is to be students of God’s Word as teenagers.

Feeding Our Souls On God’s Word

We don’t know about you, but as 18-year-old guys we not only have an intense, constant hunger for all things edible, but we also strive to feed that hunger in an equally intense and constant way. We are acutely and painfully aware when we miss a meal or any one of the dozen snacks we scatter throughout the day.

This takes on special significance once we start viewing God’s Word as food for our souls—or as Charles Spurgeon liked to put it, “the daily bread of the true believer.” Our hunger for God’s Word and our diligence in satisfying that hunger should be even GREATER than our diligence in fulfilling our physical appetite. Why? Because the consequences of spiritual hunger are far greater.

How Spiritual Hunger Affects Our Souls

Think about how physical hunger affects us. Our bodies are forced to compensate for inadequate nutrition by curbing physical and mental activity. Hunger deprives us of our initiative and ability to concentrate, leaving us in a state of apathy. Not only that, but antibodies and other proteins diminish in the bloodstream causing a weakening of our immune system and greater vulnerability to infectious disease.

Isn’t it scary to realize that the same kind of things are happening to our souls when we fail to feed on God’s Word? Spiritual hunger curbs our spiritual activity, energy, and focus. It makes us apathetic and weakens our spiritual immune system making us much more vulnerable to temptation.

Whenever we miss meals we are quick to use it as an excuse when we struggle to perform our best: “I missed lunch today so I’m having trouble thinking straight,” we say. But how seldom do we make the connection between our poor performance, say, resisting temptation, and missing our devotions that morning.

Priorities Move Other Things Around

Our physical bodies are important, but they pale in comparison to the value and worth of our souls. Jesus said that one soul is more valuable than the entire physical world (Mark 8:36), so you’d think that we’d make feeding our souls at least just as much of a priority as feeding our physical bodies.

Unfortunately, when I (Brett) find myself getting busy I can easily let a day slip by, or even several days, with little more than a few spiritual nibbles here and there. But if I miss breakfast, on the other hand, it doesn’t matter what’s going on, you can be sure that I will make up for it first chance I get. You see, our priorities move other things around, they don't get shoved aside by other things.

Even a person whose schedule makes it nearly impossible for them to have devotions first thing in the morning can show that God’s Word is a priority by turning to it the minute they have some free time. The “blessed” man from Psalm 1 shows his right priorities by how he delights to meditate on God’s law. He takes a text and carries it with him all day long; and when he can’t sleep, he’s thinking about the Word of God.

The Ceiling Is Where The Floor Ought To Be

If we’re honest with ourselves we’ll admit that even though spending extended periods of time reading and meditating on God’s Word goes way beyond what is expected by our culture, it is really only the basics of what is necessary for a healthy relationship with God. It’s really true that “the current ceiling for students is much closer to what the floor ought to be.”

This is why going through the motions doesn’t cut it. Reading our Bibles every day just to feel good about ourselves or to be “better than the average teenager” accomplishes nothing. Snatching up a Proverb here and there may prove helpful in a purely practical way, but we must ask ourselves:

Is our delight in the law of God (His will, His word)?

Do we study God’s Word?

Do we make it our best companion and hourly guide?

If not, we are starving our souls.

The Powerhouse Youth Rally August 2008 - ALL FOR LOVE was indeed a BLAST!!
It was held last Saturday, on the 23rd of August 2008.
Many plans and preparations were made specially for this event and most importantly, prayers from everyone of us either in the prayer meeting or during time alone!
Praise God He had been faithful throughout the past few weeks and even in this event and always will!!!
Sister Rose from FGA KL shared about LOVE, JUSTICE and GRACE in that rally!
It's a splendid message indeed!
An all-girls band called "Free to Fall" was also invited to perform in that evening.

National Service Session

Hi there, pH-ers!
Last Friday, which was the 22nd of August, some of our youth had gone to the NS site in Beranang!
It had been a time of blessing and bonding session!

M (aking) . A . D (ifference) for Christ

While walking along a beach, an elderly gentleman saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, picking up starfish one by one and tossing each one gently back into the water.

He came closer still and called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

The old man smiled, and said, “I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the elderly observer commented, “But, young man, do you not realise that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it back into the ocean past the breaking waves and said, “It made a difference for that one.”

Sometimes we find ourselves too caught up in our businesses, slowly plotting along our daily lives in the full adrenaline of activities in our school or college, the fun we are having, the excited things that are happening in our life and all the 'cool' friends we have right inside our pocket until we are not able to put our eyes off them…

Or, it may be the hurts that we may be going through, the wanting to stand out in the limelight, the goals that we try to achieve but didn't succeed to...

In all of this happenings and rushing through doors after doors of events in life, do we ever stop by for a while or, in the second case, stop looking at our scar and think of others who are going through some worse things in their life, who need far more help and encouragement from the people around them?

Do we ever stop by at their station to see whether we can help them and ask them about their days?

Sometimes we may get too occupied with ourselves and the things that are happening around us until we tend to abandon and forget those who so need our help but never are able to ask for it because there's no opportunity to do so!

We can try to stop doing our homework in class or anything that we are doing at that time for that matter, and spend one minute to open our eyes to the people around us especially to those who don't know our Lord Jesus Christ.

We may question; what is wrong with their life, what is such a big deal about them? Why try to think of someone who has such a bad temper, an attention-seeker or even someone who is such a quiet person?

But I tell you what… They may be the ones that greatly need the encouragement they are so desperately waiting for but do not get!

The Bible tells us;

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up ( 1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Keep on loving each other as brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:1-2)

Even a smile or asking "How's your day?" will greatly lighten up their day.

Therefore, set an example by doing so even though we may be the only one doing this in class, or in anywhere you are.

We may sometimes feel uncomfortable or even scared to greet and talk to someone we barely know, and to be different from our ‘gang', but is that not what God calls us to do?

To live differently from the world away from the ignorance and to share His love?

So, let us challenge ourselves in this small mission even though one might think that it will not make any difference in that person's life.

But, friends, like the story of the boy with the starfish above…

it in fact DOES make a lot of difference!

Tears of the saint

Hi folks! Well, this is our first update here, in this blog. ; )

Okay our first update will be on this video.

It emphasize alot on what we (the mission's committee) are here for today.

Well, we came here as one with a vision and passion to reach out and to help out the lost, and unsaved. We will constantly keep them in prayer. Most importantly, their needs.We believe that nothing is going to be impossible with God.

We are here for everyone, though it might seem to be impossible as sometimes, the committee member itself will be facing problems. But in any other way, we will still and will always still believe that God has his plans for us. He calls us to come together as one, for he knows what the plans he has for us as what the bible has stated in:

Jeremiah 29:11

''For I know the plans I have for you,'' declares the Lord, ''plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.''

Trust in the Lord and he will provide us with much strength, and confidence. Nothing can actually hinder us from pursuing our goals. For when God gives us a desire to achieve a specific goal, we can be sure that he has provided us with the strength and ability to accomplish it regardless of what we might be facing.
